Director Bong Joon-ho was appointed as the chairman of the jury at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in September.

According to the festival’s website on the 15th, director Bong Joon-ho accepted the proposal of the chairman of the jury and said, “It is an honor to be part of the long history of the Venice Film Festival and the tradition of beautiful films.”

Director Bong added, “As the chairman of the jury, and more importantly, as an eternal film fan, I am ready to send my respect and applause to all the great films selected by this festival,” he added. “It is full of genuine hope and excitement.”

Alberto Barbera, the artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, told the news that Bong will be the chairman of the jury. “Today this great Korean director is one of the most genuine and original voices in the world film industry. “I am very grateful for what I decided to pour out.”

The Venice Film Festival, which is counted as one of the world’s three largest film festivals along with Cannes and Berlin, has been reduced in size and held offline, unlike the Cannes Film Festival, which gave up holding the film festival last year amid a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

‘Nomadland’, directed by Chloe Zhao, the winner of the Golden Lion Award, the highest prize, is also regarded as a strong nominee at the US Golden Globe and Academy Awards.

The 78th Venice Film Festival is scheduled to be held from September 1 to 11. Union
