The Ministry of Science and Technology and Information and Communication has reinvented its capabilities that have led to digital transformation and innovation throughout the economy and society, such as’the world’s first commercialization of 5G’,’National Artificial Intelligence Strategy’,’Revision of the 3rd Data Act’, and’Promotion of Digital New Deal’. It is a plan to overcome Corona 19 and make a major transformation by focusing once.
In particular, this year, we will accelerate digital new deals such as the construction of six data dam platforms and 150 kinds of artificial intelligence (AI) data, and commercialize a three-minute Corona 19 diagnostic kit by March to prepare kits, vaccines, and treatments with our technology. It is a policy.
The Ministry of Science and ICT made a business report to President Moon Jae-in on the 20th and emphasized that this year’s digital new deal and science and technology innovation will create a’recovery, inclusive, and leap forward’ Korea.
■ 5G lays the foundation for a digital powerhouse… Support for domestic terminal, equipment, and parts development
The Ministry of Science and ICT said that it laid the foundation for the world’s best digital powerhouse based on the world’s first commercialization of 5G in April 2019.A total of 44 new technologies and services have also been introduced, including mobile driver’s licenses used by over 1.9 million people by introducing an ICT regulatory sandbox. Explained that it was possible to show it.
In fact, it ranked first in the 5G network evaluation last year and ranked second in the global market share of 5G smartphones (as of September 2020). In addition, the digital competitiveness ranking jumped from 19th in 2017 to 8th last year, and the AI readiness index released by Oxford Insights jumped from 26th in 2019 to 7th last year.

Based on this, Samsung Electronics signed a 5G equipment supply contract for 5 years with Verizon of the United States in September of last year, and LG U+ exported 5G solutions and virtual reality (VR, AR) contents accumulated in October last year. It even exceeded $10 million. In addition, KMW, a leading 5G equipment company in Korea, saw a significant increase in sales from 296.3 billion won in 2018 to 688.2 billion won in 2019.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said that it will actively work to resolve 5G shaded areas this year, and plans to establish a 5G joint use plan within the first quarter of this year so that 5G will be concentrated in 85 major administrative buildings and all subway KTX and SRT stations. to be.
In addition, by securing an additional 470MHz width as a 5G frequency, it plans to expand the frequency available in 5G from 280MHz to 750MHz by about 2.7 times.
In particular, it plans to expand 5G-based B2B services based on specialized network operators such as smart factories, and plans to support the development of communication modules, 28GHz indoor base stations, and antennas for SMEs to be used for 5G convergence services.

“We plan to announce the policy direction for the specialized network business in January,” said Hong Jin-bae, head of the communications policy bureau. “We will comprehensively determine the availability of frequency and efficiency in the frequency domain and include the policy plan.”
Based on the success of 5G, the Ministry of Science and ICT is planning to develop core technologies, international cooperation to preoccupy standards and patents, and localize core products and equipment in earnest to preoccupy 6G leadership.

■ Spread to all digital industries and society
This year, the Ministry of Science and ICT will provide data through six platforms (16 cumulative) and 30 new centers (180 cumulative), including agrifood, marine and fisheries, digital industrial innovation, smart security, lifelog, and fire safety, newly selected to activate data utilization. It is a policy to start the supply in earnest.
In addition, based on the data integrated transaction research results, the current integrated data map-based platform transaction function will be reinforced, and data distribution and utilization will be promoted through linkage between various platforms.
In order for AI to recognize and learn data for AI learning, it plans to additionally build 150 types of data in various fields such as corpus and autonomy, and expand this to 1,300 types by 2025.

It plans to support joint development of innovative services by cloud infrastructure and service companies through flagship projects (5 cases), and to provide cloud use vouchers (500 cases) to SMEs.
As a digital innovation technology, it will also promote the preliminary feasibility project in the field of next-generation AI, blockchain, hologram, smart manufacturing, and autonomous driving, as well as the development of non-face-to-face specialized technology.
In the AI semiconductor field, it plans to actively develop a new concept PIM (Processing In Memory) semiconductor that integrates storage and calculation functions suitable for complex and extensive AI operations and foster promising companies.
In particular, it is planning to set up data governance and legal systems in order to mobilize cross-ministerial capabilities. The president’s direct 4th Industrial Revolution Committee will be launched this month as a data control tower to coordinate government-private data policies and projects.
In addition, it plans to organize and operate the’Digital Economic and Social Future Strategy Forum’ that looks ahead 30 years to envision a future digital strategy that encompasses the entire economic and social field.
