In Pompeii, Italy, which was buried in ashes with the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano, the eatery (thermopolium), which was eaten by the common people of the ancient Roman era, appeared in the world after 2,000 years. Pompeii Archaeological Park, which preserves and manages the Pompeii ruins, unearthed the ruins of eateries that sold street food and released them to the press on the 26th (local time).

The most remarkable thing about the ruins unearthed this time is the fresco with vivid colors and image forms. Duck and rooster, a dog tied with a leash, and a fairy riding a seahorse are depicted on the wall of the place where it is supposed to be a sales stand. Among them, the animals represented by pictures are presumed to be used as food ingredients.

Massimo Osanna, head of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, said, “There have been more than 80 thermopoliums in Pompeii that serve hot food and beverages, but this is the first time that this restaurant has been unearthed.”

Excavation of the Pompeii ruins began in 1748, and fragments of ancient civilizations have been continuously revealed by archaeologists and historians. On the 21st of last month (local time), the remains of a nobleman and two men who appear to be his servants were excavated in a place that appears to be a villa outside Pompeii.
