Developed quantum security chip for LGU+, IoT devices

LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it has succeeded in developing quantum security chips for IoT terminals with SoC developer ICTK Holdings, information security startup EYL, and LG CNS.

This means that it can be applied to autonomous vehicles, drones, and CCTVs by generating pure random numbers that are impossible to predict and have no patterns with a quantum random number generator (QRNG).

QRNG is more secure from hacking threats because of its high randomness in passwords compared to the pure random number generator (TRNG) used in existing IoT devices. In fact, the random randomness of QRNG is 7.69, which is about 26% higher than that of TRNG, which reaches 6.22.

LG Uplus composed a quantum security chip (QPUF) by combining QRNG with a security chip (PUF). This is a method in which QRNG and PUF directly exchange data with each other in a single chip.

Unlike in the past when each chip was configured to send and receive signals from the outside, the possibility of stealing information is less.

It is also eye-catching that it can be applied to small IoT devices because it is designed to be very small. The size was cut in half by combining the two functions, each of which were made with separate chips, into one chip. The actual chip size is about 3mm horizontally and vertically.

YL developed a QRNG with a size of about 3mm, and ICK Holdings coated it with its own PUF and produced it as a single QPUF. LG Uplus and LG CNS designed and built a software tool to use this chip in IoT devices.

Through this, QPUF can safely store IoT device data and provide functions such as firmware integrity verification and secure boot.
