On the 21st, the courier service workers’ overworked countermeasures committee (the countermeasure committee) announced on the 21st that, following the agreement with the social consensus organization, the post office parcel service also withdrew the declaration of a general strike as collective bargaining was concluded dramatically. They expressed their welcome to the agreement.

The countermeasures committee held a press conference at the office of the KCTU service federation in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul at 2 pm on the same day and gave an evaluation of the agreement.

Senior Vice Chairman Jin Gyeong-ho of the parcel delivery union said, “The discussion of the social consensus organization reached a dramatic agreement at 1:30 am on this day, and the collective bargaining at the post office headquarters of the parcel delivery union was also dramatically concluded at 12:30 a.m. just before.”

Accordingly, the Central Executive Committee of the KCTU decided to withdraw the general social strike. Earlier, the courier union held a vote for and against the members for a general social strike. According to the union, 91% of the people agreed to the general strike, which was an overwhelming situation.

Chairman Jin said, “Thankfully, it was the day when the delivery workers were completely liberated from the sorting work that had been working as’free labor’ for 28 years after the delivery industry started.”

He explained, “Through today’s agreement, the sorting work, which was the main factor in the long-term labor and overwork of the courier workers, was removed from the work of the courier workers.”

Kyu-hyuk Kang, co-president of the Countermeasures Committee, said, “The people gave us so much support and unimaginable encouragement, so that the social consensus organization made a dramatic conclusion. We will return to our original attitude and deliver the people’s precious goods safely.”

The press conference was attended by Senior Vice Chairman Jin and Joint Representative Kang, as well as Chairman Kim Dae-hwan, Chairman of the Delivery Service Union, Kim Jae-yeon, Standing Representative of the Progressive Party, Senior Secretary Lee Jo-eun of the Participation Regiment, and Jung-Hyun Yoon, Head of the Post Office Headquarters of the Delivery Service Union.
