Ministry of Industry Minister Sung Yun-mo, on-site inspection for power supply and demand in winter

Maintains stable power supply and demand even with the record of maximum power demand in winter

Stable power supply and demand management and fine dust reduction in the rest of winter

[지앤이타임즈] On the 11th, for the first time in the period of power supply and demand measures in winter, the maximum power demand recorded more than 90 million kW.

However, as a result of efforts to manage power supply and demand in cooperation with power related organizations such as KEPCO and power exchanges and power plants, stable power supply and demand conditions were maintained.

On the 18th, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yun-mo visited the Bundang Power Plant headquarters to check the power supply and demand management situation in winter and encourage field workers to encourage officials from power-related organizations.

According to the Ministry of Industry, this month, due to a record cold wave and heavy snowfall, the maximum power demand on the 11th recorded 94.56 million kW, exceeding the largest power demand last year of 82.35 million kW.

In addition, in accordance with the’Winter Power Supply and Demand and Coal Power Reduction Measures’, 12 to 17 coal power plants have been shut down since December last year, and 26 to 46 units have been capped.

Minister Seong emphasized that it is the result of efforts at the power plant site to maintain stable power supply and demand even in such difficult situations.

In particular, at this meeting, Minister Seong mentioned that the amount of fine dust emissions decreased by about 36% compared to the previous year as a result of efforts to reduce coal power generation at the power plant site for one month last December.

According to the Ministry of Industry, in December last year, through the suspension of operation of coal power plants and restrictions on capping, the emission of fine dust from coal power plants during a month was 765 tons, reducing 426 tons from 1,191 tons last year.

Ministry of Industry Minister Sung Yun-mo said, “We will work hard to manage the stable power supply and demand and reduce fine dust so that the people can spend warmly and cleanly, as sudden cold waves can come again during the rest of the winter.”
