Day 8 of protest against the Myanmar coup… “Stop night kidnapping”

The civil disobedience movement continued on the eighth day, with street protests condemning the military coup in Myanmar held throughout the city on the 13th.

According to Reuters, protests took place in a number of cities, including the second city of Mandalay and the capital Lepido, as well as thousands of protesters gathered in Yangon, the largest city.

Prior to this, on the eve of the holiday (Union Day), hundreds of thousands of people participated in the protests, the largest number since the coup.

Even on that day, public officials such as teachers, medical staff, and air traffic controllers appeared on the street.

It was overshadowing that Supreme Commander Min Aung Hlaing, who led the military administration, urged government officials to return to work and refrain from protests through a statement and announcement in the state media for two consecutive days.

Local media and foreign media reported that the military government’s subsequent arrests or attempts to arrest those who rebelled against the coup are intensifying.

Recently, through social network service (SNS), people who participated in the civil disobedience movement, including doctors, are being arrested by the authorities without a warrant or are in danger of being arrested.

In particular, it is known that such repression takes place at night.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights pointed out that more than 350 people, including politicians, civic activists, journalists, monks, and students, have been detained since the coup on the 12th (local time), and most of them did not follow legal procedures.

The Myanmar Political Offender Support Association (AAPP) feared that “the situation is that we do not know what kind of charges, where our loved ones have been taken, as well as what state they are in.”

For this reason, placards with the words “Stop night kidnapping” began appearing in the Yangon protests.

The state-run media propagated the day before that thousands of people from all over Myanmar participated in pro-military protests, but it was not confirmed.

The military government of Myanmar held a coup on the 1st to seize power on the grounds that the civil government had not investigated it even though serious corruption occurred in the general election in November last year.
