The Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office said that it was difficult to convince the Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office that the arrest warrant for the former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Baek Woon-gyu, who is considered to be the key suspect who led the operation of the economic feasibility evaluation of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, was eventually dismissed.
Deputy Chief Judge Oh Se-yong of the Warrant of the Daejeon District Court conducted an interrogation of the suspect before arrest (substantial warrant examination) against the former Minister Baek for over 6 hours from 2:30 pm to 8:50 pm on the 8th. And dismissed the arrest warrant requested by the 5th Department of the Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office on charges of obstructing business.
The reason for the dismissal of the warrant against the former Minister Baek explained, “It is not enough to say that only the data that the prosecution has submitted to date has been sufficient to explain the alleged crime of the suspect.”
Before the prosecution summoned former Minister Baek to investigate, it was interpreted as saying that it was not possible to find a confirmation, although the prosecution was engaged in a reinforcement investigation by calling a former officer of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power to investigate.
Judge Oh said, “In order for a crime to obstruct the exercise of the right to abuse of authority, the fact that a public official has abused the authority and that he has caused him to do something that is not obligated must be proved.” We need to ensure that we can exercise our defense right in the state.”

In response, the Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office said, “It is difficult to understand the reason for dismissing the warrant,” and “we will investigate more thoroughly.”
The Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office has mostly spared words about the investigation of nuclear power plants, but it seems that it has expressed a willingness to continue the investigation without a setback, as public opinion that the damage to the investigation force that was heading the upper line of the Blue House will be dominant following the dismissal of the warrant.
Meanwhile, before undergoing a warrant review, former Minister Baek completely denied the allegations, saying, “The closure of the Wolseong nuclear power plant is a state affair with the highest priority for public safety, and the business was handled according to the principles during the time as the minister.”
As the court dismissed the warrant, the same vocation of former Minister Baek was empowered.
After securing the recruits of former Minister Baek and conducting a reinforcement investigation, it is expected that a setback will be inevitable in the prosecution’s investigation, such as Chae Hee-bong, former Blue House industrial policy secretary, heading to the upper line of the Blue House. In particular, the criticism of the unreasonable investigation for political purposes is expected to rise again, centering on the passport.
