Cyworld, the’memory box’, which was in crisis of business closure, is expected to resurrect next month.

According to the IT industry on the 3rd, the new corporation’Cyworld Z’recently acquired the right to operate Cyworld services from Cyworld CEO Je-wan Jeon.

Cyworld Z is a corporation established by forming a consortium of five companies including entertainment company Sky ENM.

The consortium said that it is currently difficult to disclose the other four companies besides Sky ENM.

Cyworld Z is planning to normalize the existing Cyworld service as early as in March.

A company official explained, “Technically, it only takes two weeks, but I think many people will be able to access it, so I plan to open the internal beta service for about two weeks.”

In the first half of the year, the beta service of’Cyworld Mobile 3.0′ will start.

Cyworld, which was PC-based, is a representative SNS that has walked downhill because it could not quickly adapt to the mobile era.

It was confirmed that Cyworld Z entrusted mobile 3.0 service development to a specialized outsourcing company.

‘Acorn’, which was used as a currency on Cyworld, for purchasing avatars and sound sources, is also revived in a different way.

Cyworld Z announced that it plans to list virtual currency.

Oh Jong-won, CEO of Cyworld Z, said, “It can be considered an evolved’Acorn’ model, but the name Acorn is made up of SK Communications, so it cannot be used.” said.

Je-wan Jeon is said to have surpassed Cyworld after receiving 1 billion won, which is the amount of wages he has paid to existing employees, from the consortium.

CEO Oh said, “The former CEO has resolved about 80% of the unpaid wages, and 20% of them are out of reach of employees, but the former CEO is constantly looking for employees and working hard.”

The former CEO was charged with overdue payment of 470 million won worth of wages and retirement allowances for 27 employees, and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison at the first trial in November last year. He was also charged with an additional charge of 600 million won worth of wages overdue.

The first trial court did not hold him in court, saying it would give him an opportunity to compensate for the damage. The former representative admitted the charges, but appealed that he would seek judgment again after the takeover operation was over.

Cyworld is a native SNS used by 32 million people. Currently, Cyworld is known to have over 10 billion photos and over 100 million videos stored.
