The Korea Curling Federation’s election management committee said it would not comply with the Korea Sports Council’s decision to cancel the announcement of invalidation of the presidential election.

Curlingers oppose the presidential election

The Election Commission of the Curling Federation said on the 28th, “Because the decision to invalidate the election is not a wrong decision, the decision to invalidate the election cannot be canceled just because the corrective action was taken at the sports meeting.

The Curling Federation elected candidate Kim Yong-bin, an entrepreneur and former president of the Korea Canoe Federation, as chairman in the election of the 9th president of the Federation on the 14th. Candidate Kim won 37 votes, overtaking former lawmaker Kim Joong-ro (35 votes) and former Federation President Kim Gu-hoe (6 votes).

However, the Federation’s election committee decided on the 20th to invalidate the election, saying that the process of forming the electoral corps was wrong. It is said that consent to personal information (utilization) must be received in advance when recommending candidates for electoral candidates and drawing electoral lotteries. It became a problem with candidate Kim Jung-ro’s objection. The Federation NEC argued that “applying different criteria for the composition of electors by region is a significant defect that undermines equity and affects outcomes.”

On the 25th, the Korean Sports Association demanded that the membership be canceled on the basis of Article 29 (Election Neutrality), Paragraph 5, etc. However, the Federation’s NEC confronted that Kim would have to file a lawsuit against the Federation in order to be recognized as president.

The Curling Federation was not able to elect a new president for two months after the presidential approval was canceled in June 2017, and was designated as a sports club management organization in August of that year, losing all rights and authority, and was canceled only in July 2019. .

Curlingers protested against this decision. The Emergency Response Committee, in which more than 100 curling athletes and leaders participated, announced that it requested an emergency temporary delegate general meeting on the day, saying, “The curling people are protesting against the Federation’s election committee, which rejected the sports meeting order.” In addition, he added that there is a possibility of requesting impeachment (non-confidence) for acting as the current federation chairman Kim Gu-hoi.
