COVID-19 Vaccine: Janssen’s Single-Vaccine Vaccine Gets U.S. FDA Approval

Janssen’s single dose COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for use by the U.S. Drug Regulatory Organization.

Janssen’s vaccines are cheaper than Pfizer’s modders and vaccines and can be stored in the refrigerator.

As a result of clinical trials, the Janssen vaccine prevented severe symptoms, and the efficacy was found to be 66% when including minor symptom cases.

Janssen, a Belgian company, has agreed to supply 100 million doses (one dose) to the United States by the end of June this year. The first dose will be available in the US starting next week as soon as possible.

Korea, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Canada have already ordered the Janssen vaccine, and the Covax project, a vaccine distribution project for underdeveloped countries, has also ordered 500 million doses.

US President Joe Biden warned that “the fight is not over,” saying, “Good news for all Americans,” over the approval of the Janssen vaccine.

In a statement, President Biden urged to continue washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing, as there is still a possibility that the situation could be exacerbated by the new mutant virus.

On the 26th, a committee of external experts from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a drug regulatory body in the United States, unanimously supported the use of the Janssen vaccine.

Clinical trials conducted in the United States, South Africa, and Brazil showed that the Janssen vaccine was 85% effective in preventing severe COVID-19, and 66%, including minor cases.

Most of all, none of the people who received the vaccination died of COVID-19, and no cases were hospitalized 28 days after vaccination.

In South Africa and Brazil, where the mutant virus was more spread, the overall rehabilitation effect was less, but the effect of preventing the onset of severe gastric symptoms was “similarly high.”

South Africa is vaccinating the Janssen vaccine, which has not yet been approved for use, to medical staff earlier this month as part of the study.

To date, the country that has approved the emergency use of the Janssen vaccine outside the United States is Bahrain, which approved the approval measures on the 25th.

Unlike Pfizer, Moder, or vaccines that require two doses, Janssen vaccine requires only one dose, so it requires less amount of vaccination and is easier for medical staff to vaccination.

What other countries have ordered the Janssen vaccine?

  • Korea – 6 million Doze (to be supplied in the second quarter)
  • England – 3000 million Doze
  • European Union- 2Billion Doze
  • Canada – 3800 million Doze
  • Cobax Country- 5Billion Doze

The Janssen vaccine uses a common cold virus that has been engineered to be harmless.

The vaccine safely transmits the genetic information of the novel coronavirus to the human body. Based on this, the human body recognizes the threat of the virus and fights when the coronavirus enters the body.

This is in a manner similar to the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
