The delivery app Coupang Itz, which is gaining popularity with ‘1 order 1 delivery’, has fallen into a difficult situation.

The delivery partner fee, which was raised despite the backlash from the industry, is returning to the boomerang.

Coupang Itz announced that it will change its delivery fee policy from March 2. The basic fee is 2,500~16,000 won.

Additional surcharges of up to 10,000 won are paid depending on distance, order quantity, and weather. Depending on the situation, a maximum of 26,000 won can be set.

Instead of lowering the minimum delivery fee when there is no demand for delivery, it considered’risk allowance’ due to bad weather such as heavy snow and heavy rain.

An official from Coupangit said, “In order to safely deliver hot food to customers through’one order delivery,’ we are flexibly applying delivery fees according to real-time conditions.” “We will provide a more reasonable amount depending on the situation to the delivery partner such as the delivery destination location.”

Earlier, Coupang Itz lowered the minimum delivery fee from 3,300 won to 3,100 won in November of last year.

With this notice, delivery costs have been reduced by about 25% in about three months. Compared to the launch of Coupang Itz, the delivery cost of at least 5,000 won has dropped to less than half in about a year and a half.

Coupangitz delivery partners are rebelling against the faster-than-expected fee cut.

Rider Union, a cooperative of delivery workers, said on Facebook that “Coupang’s gag has crossed the line.” Insisted.

They plan to take action to normalize fees in front of Coupang headquarters on February 3 after holding a’rider testimony contest’ on YouTube on the 28th.

One partner also posted a petition for the Blue House alleging Coupang Itz’s mischief.

On the 25th, the Cheong Wa Dae petition bulletin board posted a petition titled’Help me get out of the blind spot of Coupang Itz’ uninsured.

It is pointed out that although various promotions are being prepared to attract the general public to the delivery market, not only are they not able to know how the wages were settled, but they are consistent with inquiries by silently answering questions. He pointed out the policy that the delivery industry workers are not able to subscribe to the paid transportation insurance, which leads to uninsured blind spots.

Next, he explained about the change in price policy, “Unlike other platforms, Coupang Itz does not bundle similar lines of delivery to prevent delivery at once, so the impact of the price cut is greater.”

He stressed, “Even if you deliver 3 or 4 cases per hour at a basic unit price of 2500 won, subtracting tax and oil costs, the profit is below the minimum hourly wage.”

An industry insider said, “Coupangitz has increased its market share faster than expected with aggressive marketing, and it feels like it has reached its limit,” and said, “The market response is not very good.”

Meanwhile, according to Mobile Index, the monthly users (MAU) of Coupang Itz increased more than 10 times from 270,000 in January last year to 2.84 million in December.
