[일요서울 | 이창환 기자] Coupang is expanding its domestic distribution center as the first step since listing on the New York Exchange, the US stock market on the 11th.

According to Coupang on the 27th, the’Coupang Wanju Logistics Center’ will be established in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do. For this, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed with Jeollabuk-do and Wanju-gun. In addition, it is expected to revitalize the local economy and create jobs.

According to Wanju-gun, the Wanju Distribution Center, which is scheduled to cover a total of 100,000 square meters (about 3250 pyeong), is the largest in Jeollabuk-do and is expected to create 2,000 new jobs. In particular, it is expected to provide priority to local residents and contribute to narrowing the employment gap according to gender and age.

According to the industry, while most distribution warehouses and centers are concentrated in the metropolitan area, Coupang has built a nationwide logistics infrastructure. Distribution centers have been established in about 100 locations in 30 cities nationwide.

Coupang CEO Park Dae-joon said, “Through the new distribution center, we are able to provide better rocket delivery services to Coupang customers.” Said. He added, “By attracting global funds through Coupang’s IPO, we can now greatly expand investment and joint growth with local communities in all regions of the country.”
