Some Coupang distorted the working environment at the distribution center and countered the claim that the increased volume of the workforce of the employees at the distribution center increased.

On the 20th, Coupang announced through its newsroom that it is creating a differentiated working environment based on large-scale additional hiring, investment in technology and automation facilities, and 100% direct employment of domestic logistics center logistics workers.

Coupang Logistics Center added 12,484 logistics center personnel from January to December last year, increasing its manpower by 78% per year. As of the end of December last year, 28,451 people are working. Technology investment and innovation were added to this increase in manpower, which reduced the burden on each individual.

Another secret to lowering the working intensity was the introduction of an automatic packing system and automatic sorter, expansion of conveyor belts, and optimization of work flow using AI. Over the past year, 500 billion won has been invested in this technology investment alone.

Coupang also refuted some claims that UPH (production per hour) is the standard for regular employment and evaluation. Coupang suggested that all short-term employees join a full-time job at least three times a month, explaining that about 80% of applicants are accepted as full-time jobs, and that UPH is not included in the recruitment criteria.

Unlike other distribution centers that entrust their work to subcontractors, Coupang employs 100% of the logistics workers in distribution centers nationwide.

It is evaluated that it is setting a new standard for the working environment in the domestic logistics industry with stable jobs and sufficient welfare benefits through direct employment. It provides 4 major insurances, and provides various welfare benefits such as working 52 hours a week, 5 days a week, weekly vacation allowance and severance pay, free commuter bus, and free meals.
