From next month, medical staff dedicated to treating patients with novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) will begin vaccinating the corona 19 vaccine. There is no individual vaccine option. The timing and quantity of vaccines for Pfizer and AstraZeneca, which will be introduced through the COVAX facility in the first quarter, have yet to be confirmed.

The COVID-19 vaccination response promotion team held a briefing on the 28th and announced that it plans to carry out the COVID-19 vaccinations, which aim to form collective immunity by November, in sequence from February. On that day, Jung Eun-kyung, head of vaccination, gave a briefing.

The final supply of ekw in February is 750,000 people, and it is the first to be administered to medical staff who treat corona19 patients in the metropolitan area. Of these, the amount confirmed in February was 750,000 AstraZeneca vaccines (1.5 million doses).
It is expected this week whether to add COVEX supply. In the case of Kovacs, AstraZeneca and Pfizer are expected to receive supplies, but the type, quantity, and supply timing have not been decided yet.

Considering that this is the first vaccination, vaccination is performed by the medical staff of medical institutions located in the metropolitan area at the central vaccination center prepared at the National Medical Center, a central infectious disease hospital. Since then, it will be expanded to three regional vaccination centers (Jungbu, Honam, and Yeongnam area specialized hospitals for infectious diseases), and the vaccine will be delivered to individual Corona 19 hospitals, etc., and the medical institution will conduct its own vaccination.

The vaccination order took into account the severe risk of progression in case of Corona 19 infection, maintenance of medical and quarantine systems, and characteristics of corona 19 transmission. Accordingly, in the first quarter, starting with the corona19 patient treatment medical staff, workers in nursing hospitals and elderly medical welfare facilities, in the second quarter, workers over 65 years old and workers at medical institutions and home welfare facilities, and in the third quarter, chronically ill and adults (age 19-64). Inoculation is performed sequentially for the back.

The government makes vaccinations possible through strict procedures when urgent departure is necessary for essential public affairs or important economic activities, but also prepares measures to prevent abuse cases.

Until now, the government has signed a contract to purchase vaccines for a total of 56 million people with individual pharmaceutical companies such as Kovacs, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Pfizer, and Modena. NovaVax vaccines are also under way for 20 million people.

Vaccines contracted through individual pharmaceutical companies will be introduced in stages from AstraZeneca from 1Q, Janssen and Modena from 2Q, and Pfizer from 3Q. However, it has not yet been disclosed what kind of vaccine the people will receive.

Vaccines that are introduced early through COVAX prior to individual vaccine approval will be reviewed in Korea through special import after consulting the WHO emergency use approval status and consulting with experts from the Agency for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration.

Corona 19 vaccine distribution system. / Provided by the Disease Management Office

It is important to establish a distribution system for the COVID-19 vaccine because the storage and distribution conditions for each manufacturer are different. Vaccination sites vary by vaccine. The government establishes a safe vaccine distribution and storage system jointly with the public, public, and military from vaccine arrival to vaccination. A contract with a private company to establish a distribution management system (SK Bioscience) and expansion of cryogenic freezers (Daehan Science, Ilshin Biobase, Thermo Fisher Scientific) has also been signed to prepare for each stage in earnest.

The whole process of delivery and storage of vaccines, where maintenance of the cold chain is the key, is promoting real-time management of temperature maintenance and delivery location tracking by establishing an integrated Internet of Things (IoT)-based control center. The military manages and responds quickly to various crises centered on the transport support headquarters.

Vaccination is divided into vaccination centers (about 250, mRNA vaccines) and consignment medical institutions (about 10,000, virus vector vaccines) depending on the type of vaccine. For those with limited mobility, such as residents in nursing homes for the elderly and facilities for severely handicapped persons, a visit-to-visit vaccination team is operated.

Vaccination centers (si/gun/gu units) are large indoor gymnasiums centered on public facilities equipped with self-powered facilities and facilities for the disabled, securing sufficient space to install cryogenic freezers, observe pre-diagnosis and adverse reactions, separate traffic lines and keep distance. Or it will be operated using a large auditorium.

Outsourced medical institutions are selected mainly from medical institutions participating in national vaccinations such as influenza that meet the designated criteria and have completed the corona 19 vaccine vaccination training.

First, local governments will form a consultative body with the local medical community to secure vaccination medical personnel, but the central government will also provide support according to the supply and demand situation.

For close consultations with the medical community, the Uijeongbu Joint Committee is formed and operated with the center of the Ministry of Welfare. In addition to supporting medical personnel, close cooperation will be continued in promoting vaccination-related education.

Preparations were also prepared to prevent adverse reactions to the Corona 19 vaccine. Before vaccination, the government must conduct a preliminary examination to check whether vaccination is possible. After vaccination, the government stays at the vaccination institution for a certain period of time (15-30 minutes) to observe any adverse reactions. Among adverse reactions after vaccination, damage cases in which vaccination and causality are recognized as a result of epidemiological investigations are fully compensated by the state under the’Vaccination Damage Compensation System’.

“Corona 19 vaccinations are carried out in order according to national plans during a disaster, so please participate in vaccinations to restore the daily life desired by the people. Even if vaccinations begin, wear a mask until group immunity is formed. He stressed, “You must follow the quarantine rules such as distance.”
