Sisa Week = Reporter Jegalmin As a result of a survey of patients confirmed to have a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in Brazil, it was found that the proportion of patients with vitamin D deficiency was high between the mild and severe patients.

According to a recent study conducted by a research team from Professor Marcos Pereira of the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, patients with vitamin D deficiency have found that Corona 19 is worse. The contents of the research were published in the latest issue of’Critical Review on Food Science and Nutrition,’ an international journal in the food field.

Professor Pereira’s research team conducted a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to confirm the correlation with vitamin D in adult and elderly subjects with COVID-19. As a result, vitamin D deficiency was not directly related to the likelihood of corona 19 infection, but the proportion of patients with vitamin D deficiency in the severe corona19 group was 64% more than in the mild patient group.

In addition, it was confirmed that the hospitalization rate of patients with Corona 19 deficient in vitamin D increased by 81% and the mortality rate by 82% compared to patients without vitamin D deficiency. Therefore, the research team revealed that there is a close correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of Corona 19 disease. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with the severity of Corona 19.

Vitamin D deficiency is applicable when the serum 25-OH vitamin D concentration is less than 50 n㏖/ℓ (20 ng/ml). In order to reduce the risk of Corona 19, experts need enough effort to achieve a serum 25-OH vitamin D concentration of 75n㏖/ℓ (30ng/ml) or more, and recommend 4,000IU (100㎍) of vitamin D daily intake. Are doing.

Recently, 100 experts from around the world, including scientists and doctors, published a joint statement on the necessity of taking vitamin D in the journal’Senior Psychiatry and Neuropsychology of Aging’,’Vitamin D Supplements and Corona 19: Expert Consensus and Guidelines’ It can be said that the credibility is high as it has been announced.

Vitamin D plays an important role in building a healthy immune system by inducing the expression of antimicrobial peptides on the surface of immune cells and epithelium. Therefore, it is known that in order for the immune system to function normally, we must have a sufficient amount of vitamin D.

Vitamin D has the specificity of being supplied from sunlight in addition to food. The time for vitamin D synthesis without causing erythema on the skin suggested by experts is 20-40 minutes a day. However, it is difficult to expect a supply of vitamin D from the actual sunlight during a difficult time to go out.

Therefore, it seems necessary to take vitamin D through food or supplements. Foods that naturally contain vitamin D include blue-green fish, fish liver oil, and egg yolk. Foods fortified with vitamin D, such as soy milk and yogurt, can also be a major source.
