◇ Group immunity goal in November… Free vaccination for foreigners residing in Korea

Last year, the government signed a supply contract with AstraZeneca for 10 million people, Janssen for 6 million people, Pfizer for 10 million people, and Modena for 20 million people. facility), it has secured a total of 56 million vaccines, including 10 million supplies.

Although the supply of pre-purchased vaccines starts in the first quarter of AstraZeneca, the second quarter of Janssen and Modena, and the third quarter of Pfizer, the schedule may be delayed due to problems in the production process.

In this regard, Commissioner Chung explained, “We are working in various ways to continuously discuss with pharmaceutical companies and maximize the supply schedule.”

The government is planning to provide both drug and vaccination fees so that all citizens can receive the Corona 19 vaccine for free.

In addition, foreigners residing in Korea are also included in the free vaccination target.

Headquarters Jung said, “We are conducting a more detailed analysis on the scope and procedure of free vaccinations for foreigners, and will arrange them after consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

The government has announced that it will intensively administer vaccinations in the third quarter (July-September), when a large amount of vaccines are introduced, and that it will be able to form’collective immunity’ in November.

This is a target set on the premise that about 60-70% of the people receive two vaccinations.

However, depending on the rate and duration of antibody formation after vaccination, the actual population immunity formation period may be delayed.

In addition, if there are many people who refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19, it may become difficult to form collective immunity within the target period.

When asked if they are seeking incentives to increase the vaccination rate, Jung replied, “I do not consider incentives or disadvantages from vaccination. I do not think that is desirable.”

He stressed, “I believe that providing scientific information on the necessity, safety and effectiveness of vaccination and building social trust through communication is an important factor in increasing the vaccination rate.”
