Reporter Kwon Hyeok-jin = In the 2020-2021 V-League, which is approaching the final stage, controversy over the decision spread. The subtle difference between the V-League and the international arena became a hot topic twice in a week.

The first is a position fault from Woori Card and KEPCO on the 24th.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) defines the moment when the player serving serves hits the ball as the point at which the players move. However, in the V-League, the server is allowed to change positions when tossed. It is a kind of local rule concept.

This difference caused friction between Woori Card coach Shin Young-cheol and the referees. The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) admitted that three of the four judgments raised by Woori Card were misjudgments based on local rules.

On the 26th, at Heungkuk Life Insurance-GS Caltex, the touch-out decision for Kim Yeon-kyung’s attack was on the cutting board. In the 3rd set 9-5, when Kim Yeon-kyung’s push was declared a touch-out, GS Caltex requested a video read.

The supervisors turned the screen several times and raised GS Caltex’s hand. Kim Yeon-kyung, not the blocker, is the final touch. On the slow screen confirmation, Kim Yeon-kyung was hitting the ball a little later in the scene. Kim Yeon-kyung strongly protested that she could not understand, but the results did not change.

Kim Yeon-kyung said, “I didn’t know if there was a local rule (not in the V-League), with the insistence that if the striker made a touch-out at the international competition after the match, the score of the striker should be recognized regardless of the last touch.”

In a phone call on the 27th, the recently inaugurated head of the KOVO game management headquarters, Kim Gun-tae, said, “Touch-out means the player’s fault that finally touched the body. “It’s not going to be a problem,” he explained, saying it was a normal reading.

There is also an opinion that this decision should be separated from the controversy over local rules. It is a difference in video reading rather than a gap in regulations.

“All touches are based on the last person hit. It’s simple. In international competitions, video readings like this hardly come out,” said Kim, head of the competition operation headquarters. “The beginning of video reading is Korean professional volleyball. We read more than FIVB. The range is also much wider. I think it was because Kim Yeon-kyung rarely experienced such a case.”

A KOVO official said, “In fact, in the same situation as yesterday, the defending side rarely uses video reading. It’s because I think it’s usually the score of the striker.” Yesterday, GS Caltex Director Cha Sang-hyun used the video reading appropriately, and the supervisors looked at the screen and made a decision.”

“The V-League has more ranges and times than international matches. If that’s a local rule, then it’s a local rule,” he said. “I wonder if the supervisors could give points to the attackers even if we checked the screen like yesterday at the international competition?” Asked.

In fact, a similar scene was produced at the Korea Expressway Corporation and KGC Ginseng Exhibition last year. Park Jung-ah’s attack was corrected as an attacker touch-out after reading the video at the first blocker touch-out.

The V-League system is also internationally organized. In particular, the broadcasting technology is not inferior to any league. Cameras placed throughout the stadium capture the movements of the players in detail.

A KOVO official said, “It is difficult to say that yesterday’s situation could be caught thanks to good relay technology, but it is a different problem from the local rules mentioned by Kim Yeon-kyung. It is not in the V-League, not in international regulations, but as a result of a well-equipped video reading system. I think it will be a little closer,” he said.
