A man in his 80s who was self-quarantine after entering the country from the UK was confirmed to have a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). Along with the man, three other family members from England were also confirmed. The quarantine authorities are analyzing whether they are infected with a mutant virus that has a strong transmission power.
In his 80s, he died during self-isolation
According to Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, etc. on the 27th, a man in his 80s died of a cardiac arrest at the National Health Insurance Corporation Ilsan Hospital around 11:27 am on the 26th. Mr. A returned from England on the 13th and was in self-isolation. He was transferred to this hospital at around 10:45 am that day due to cardiac arrest, but died after 40 minutes. He was confirmed as Corona 19 in the post-test results.
An official from Goyang City said, “Mr. A was asymptomatic at the time of entry,” and said, “As it was confirmed that A was normally managed for heart disease, it seems that we should check whether Corona 19 had an effect.”

When Mr. A was confirmed post-mortem, the quarantine authorities conducted a specimen collection test on three members of Mr. A’s family. Three of these families were also confirmed on the same day. All of Mr. A’s family arrived from England. Another family, Mr. B, returned home from the UK on the 8th of last month, and ended self-isolation after receiving negative tests on both tests.
Afterwards, on the 13th, A and two other family members returned to Korea. Mr. A and others were self-quarantined in a house in Goyang City after being negatively judged upon entry. Mr. B, who returned to Korea earlier, also lived in one house. The quarantine authorities are grasping that Mr. B has completed self-isolation and engaged in outside activities, and is identifying the lines of traffic and contacts.
The Central Defense Countermeasures Headquarters is analyzing samples from Mr. A to determine whether they are infected with the mutant virus as these family members have recently entered the country from the UK, where the corona 19 variant virus has spread. Results will come out as early as this week.
