Competition for online-only plans aimed at the self-sufficiency system of 3 telecommunication companies

KT also launched an online exclusive rate plan

Introduced the first insurance/compensation program

Three mobile telecommunications companies are rushing to attract customers by releasing an online-only plan that meets the demand for self-sufficiency and non-face-to-face trends.

According to the industry on the 8th KT(030200)On the 9th, in order to expand customers’ choice of smart phone purchase channels, including self-sufficiency, the online-only plan’Y-no-contract plan’ will be released.

It consists of a 5G and LTE plan, and can be subscribed to at an online shopping mall. The ‘5G Y Uncontracted Plan’ provides 200GB (gigabyte) of data for 55,000 won per month. Customers using the’LTE Y Uncontracted Plan’ can use 100GB of data for 45,000 won per month. In both plans, when basic data is exhausted, you can use unlimited data at a speed of 5Mbps (megaBPS). In particular, KT increased its competitiveness by releasing insurance and compensation programs aimed at self-sufficient customers for the first time among Korean telecommunications companies. Self-sufficient terminal damage insurance, launched by KT, provides insurance against damage regardless of the purchase route or period of use of the smartphone. In addition, through a self-sufficient phone replacement program, up to 40% of compensation can be received when the terminal is returned after paying for 24 months.

previously SK Telecom (017670)and LG Uplus (032640) It also introduced an online-only plan. SK Telecom launched a 5G online plan that offers 200GB of data for 52,000 won per month and 9GB for 38,000 won per month. LG Uplus also joined with a 5G online plan that gives 150GB of data for 51,000 won per month and 12GB for 37,500 won per month.

All three mobile carriers have launched various online plans, but users are still dissatisfied. This is because there is no reasonable plan to meet the data usage of 5G users. In fact, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT, the average monthly data usage per 5G smartphone subscriber as of November last year was 25.53GB. An industry official said, “The amount of data currently provided by the online 5G plans of the three mobile carriers is much higher or very insufficient compared to the amount of data actually used by customers.” Only then will the speed of popularization of 5G be accelerated.”
