Korean students at Harvard University in the U.S. made a statement condemning a professor at Jagyo who recently claimed to be a’prostitute, not a sex slave’.

The Korean Association of Harvard Law School (KAHL) issued a statement on the 4th (local time) and said, “I strongly condemn the intentional eradication of human rights violations and war crimes.”

John Mark Ramseyer, professor of law at Harvard University, wrote in Volume 65 of the International Review of Law and Economics, a law and economics journal scheduled to be published in March. He submitted his thesis under the title’Contracting for sex in the Pacific War’.

According to foreign media, Professor Ramseyre argued in the thesis that the Japanese military comfort women and the Japanese military were not sexual slaves, saying that they signed a “contract” for mutual benefit at the time.

In a statement, the students pointed out that “Professor Ramsayer’s argument is inaccurate and misleading,” and “he insists that no government has forced women to prostitution without any convincing evidence.”

Students also pointed out that Professor Ramseyre rarely mentions Korean perspectives and academic writings. In addition, he stressed that he ignored a wide range of academic data from international organizations such as the United Nations and Amnesty International.

“Up to 200,000 women have been forced into sex slavery by the Japanese military in China, Taiwan, and the Philippines,” he said. “We will work with victims who have not received full compensation and official apology from the Japanese government.”
