‘Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle’ Dishonored for 3 consecutive years
In Korea,’Lotte’ generates the most plastic waste
The’disposable mask’ that became the main cause of new environmental pollution in Corona

As a result of an analysis of global garbage by participating in the’Global Garbage Brand Survey’ in 2020 by the Environmental Movement Association,’Coca-Cola’ (51 countries, 13,834) was found to be the largest producer of plastic waste in the world.
Next,’PepsiCo (43 countries, 5,155)’,’Nestle (37 countries, 8,633)’,’Unilever (37 countries, 5,558)’ and’Mondelyz (34 countries, 1,171)’ were ranked in the rankings. In particular,’Coca-Cola’,’PepsiCo’, and’Nestle’ were in disgrace by being ranked at the top of the plastic pollution category for three consecutive years.
By item of garbage found most in the world,’disposable food packaging (203,427 items including disposable cup lids)’,’tobacco-related supplies (92,342 items including cigarette butts, lighters)’,’household products (21,030 items including detergent containers) ‘Found in order.
In detail, the most commonly found trash was’disposable plastic plastic bags (63,972 pieces)’. ‘Cigarette butts (60,344 pieces)’ and’Pet bottles for drinking water (50,968 pieces)’ followed.
Unlike previous years, the most noticeable in this year’s garbage survey are’disposable masks (770 pieces)’ and’disposable gloves (419 pieces). Although plastic waste has increased every year, as Corona 19 hits the world, the use of disposable personal hygiene products in addition to plastic waste is increasing, accelerating global pollution.

As a result of the analysis of domestic garbage by the Korea Federation for Environmental Movement, the most found garbage was’cigarette butts (7,256 pieces)’, and the most found brand was’Lotte (298 pieces)’. These are garbage items and companies that all ranked at the top in the garbage classification survey conducted by the Environmental Movement Federation during 2020.
What stands out is that the number of’disposable masks’ garbage has increased tremendously due to Corona 19. The nonwoven fabric used in the’disposable mask’ is made of polypropylene (PP), that is, plastic, and when discarded in the natural environment, it causes serious environmental pollution and destruction of the ecosystem.
“Recycling can no longer be a solution,” said the Federation of Environmental Movements, through this year’s garbage brand survey. “Companies that produce plastics will actively reduce the use of plastics and take responsibility for environmental problems caused by plastics. “I will ask for it.”
Meanwhile, the’World Brand Survey’ is an activity that began in Texas in the United States under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in 1986, and is a citizen-participating marine environment purification activity in which an average of 100 countries and 500,000 people participate every year. This year, 14,734 people from 55 countries participated, collecting 346,494 plastic waste items. The Environmental Movement Federation collected, identified and analyzed plastic waste generated in local communities with 353 members of the Environmental Movement Association in 13 regions including Seoul, Daegu, Sejong, and Suwon.
