At the closing meeting of the NPC on that day, drafts of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), a draft long-term development strategy for 2035, and a draft resolution on the completion of the Hong Kong election system were voted.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said in a press conference held after the closing meeting, “The suggestion of an economic growth rate of more than 6% this year is not a plan, but an expectation to maintain sustainability and lay the foundation for economic recovery.” He added, “China is still a developing country and there is still a long way to go in order to realize modernization, but we will continue to show strong long-term growth.”

He also commented on the decision on the Hong Kong election system. “This decision is very clear,” said Prime Minister Lee. “It is a measure to ensure the stable implementation of the’one country and two systems'”. On the Taiwan issue, he said, “We welcome dialogue with Taiwan on the premise of maintaining one Chinese principle.”

Regarding the relationship between China and the United States, he said, “China and the United States have a wide range of common interests and many areas of cooperation.” As President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone recently, he added, “Let’s develop relations between the two countries in a healthy way, respecting each other’s core interests.”

In addition, he expressed his aspirations for overcoming the Corona 19 pandemic and promoting openness to the outside world.
