“It’s a vote for the mayor of Seoul, but shouldn’t I have to come in time? I waited from 5:55 in the morning.”
This is the words of Kim Jeong-su, 79, who met at the 4th polling place in Daeheung-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

5:57 am on the 7th, the day of the re-election of Seoul and Busan, as well as by-election. From dawn, there was a long line at the polling place. Even in the chilly morning air, nearby residents visited the polls constantly. Various generations gathered at the polling place, including the elderly who hurried to a slow walk with bright gray hair, the middle-aged in mountaineering clothes, and the youth who hurried to the gym and work early in the morning.

The polling place site was fully prepared for the COVID-19 quarantine. Before entering the polling place, a heat check was conducted. Even after entering, the voters waited for the voting turn to be spaced 1m apart from each other.

“Please wear plastic gloves and enter.” I heard the voting officer cry. Plastic gloves must be worn before entering the voting booth and stamping the ballot. Once worn in this way, the plastic gloves headed to the collection box provided at the polling place.

Da-som Kim, 28, living in Mapo-gu, said, “I lived in a local area, and I was able to vote for the mayor of Seoul for the first time in two years since I came to Seoul.”

Some citizens said they chose a time when people were not crowded to avoid Corona 19. “I didn’t want to wait, so I deliberately visited the polling place at 6 o’clock,” said a 24-year-old aunt who attends a nearby university.

There are opinions that they do not believe in recent rumors such as’pre-voting fraudulent elections’. Mr. Kim (30), who met at the polling place, said, “There are all kinds of stories, such as pre-voting, illegal elections, and I don’t think that’s real.”

People who came to vote for the busy commute to work did not hide their bitterness about the current regime. Taxi driver Jo Soo-ho (66) said, “The economy is also messy, and there are many problems such as jobs and real estate problems for young people.” I’ve been in the market before, so I’d like to do it well.”

6:49 a.m. As the rush hour approached, the appearance of office workers striking and entering the polls increased noticeably.

Office workers in their 30s especially complained about the real estate policy. Yoon Mo (37), an office worker living in Mapo-gu, said, “The current regime has a lot of problems from real estate policy,” he said. “I think politics should go through the process of changing politics from this election to the president next year.”

Kim Mo (32), who works as a patent attorney, said, “I think there are a lot of problems with the real estate policy, especially because of the high house prices these days. I think this election of the mayor of Seoul will be an opportunity to reveal the hearts of the citizens of Seoul. Talked.

On the other hand, there was also an opinion that it would be nice if the ruling party would suffice through this re-and-by-election election. “I don’t hate the ruling party, but I was disappointed,” said Omo, a 20-year-old college student.

Park Mo (24), who works at an elementary school, said, “There is a mistake by the Democratic Party, but it is the way to vote with the idea that it will give power to the end of the regime.”
