
SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won emphasized the importance of industry-academia-year collaboration in the growing battery industry.
On the morning of the 19th, Chairman Choi made a welcoming remark at the webinar’The Future of Battery Technology and Materials’ hosted by Choi Jonghyun Academy of Public Interest Foundation of SK Group.
Chairman Choi continued his welcoming speech in English.
“In science and technology, it is only by looking at the dynamic past innovations that new attempts to create future industries can be properly made.” And collaboration is very important in the expanding battery ecosystem.”
He added, “This collaboration corresponds to developing new materials for next-generation batteries and recycling waste batteries.”
SK Group is investing in fostering eco-friendly electric vehicle battery business in accordance with ESG (environmental, social, governance) management. At the end of last year, the reorganization was also completed in the direction of accelerating the growth of the battery business and materials business. The next-generation new materials and waste battery recycling technology, which Chairman Choi mentioned on the day, is also a business that SK Innovation is currently focusing on.

The welcoming speech on this day was Chairman Choi’s first battery business management move after the final judgment on a lawsuit for infringing battery trade secrets between SK Innovation and LG Energy Solutions. However, Chairman Choi did not mention his position regarding the lawsuit.
The two companies are still unable to close the gap in terms of the amount of the settlement. According to the industry, LG is said to have proposed a settlement amount of KRW 3 trillion and SK’s KRW 500-800 billion. Accordingly, it was also observed that Chairman Choi and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo will meet in person and reach an agreement.
