A controversial Chinese YouTuber Lizqi, who was controversial with the hashtag’Chinese Cuisine’, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records while releasing a video of cooking kimchi stew with cabbage kimchi. He was selected as the person with the most subscribers in the YouTube Chinese channel category.

On the 3rd, Hong Kong SCMP reported that Guinness’s official account on Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter) the day before, “Lizchi, who caused a sensation in online cooking, recorded the highest number of subscribers in the Chinese channel on YouTube and made it to the Guinness Book of Records.” Currently, Lizchi YouTube has 14.2 million subscribers.

Guinness said, “The poetic and beautiful lifestyle and exquisite Chinese traditional culture shown in Lizchi’s video captivated people all over the world,” and said, “His video in particular made many Westerners better understand Chinese culture.”

Lizqi, born in 1990, is known from Sichuan, China. A video of a young woman living in the countryside who farms and eats food by hand, dyes clothes and wears clothes, and recreates the cosmetics of ancient Chinese women.

The video, which beautifully captured the pastoral romance with outstanding performance, left a strong impression on those who are tired of urban life and Westerners who long for oriental beauty. Lizchi’s kimchi video also posted comments such as “The most beautiful video about kimchi.”

There is also a strong backlash from Lizchi’s Guinness Book of Records. In January’s 14-minute video, Lizchi harvested and trimmed cabbage, pickled in salt, mixed with seasoning, and made cabbage kimchi. He took out the kimchi stored in Jangdok, chopped pork, and made a soup dish similar to kimchi stew. He added hashtags such as’Chinese Cuisine’ and’Chinese Food’ to this video, and it spread to’Kimchi Workshop’ between Korean and Chinese netizens.

Korean netizens responded, such as “Kimchi is a traditional Korean food” and “Why introduce Korean food as Chinese food”, but the Chinese side consistently showed that there was no problem, raising the conflict. In the end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries evolved to say,’We must not harm the sentiment between Korea and China.’
