On the 27th (local time), China retaliated against the United States and Canada over the human rights issue of Uighur ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.

The United States recently mobilized allies such as the European Union (EU) to discuss issues such as Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and has stepped up pressure on China, and the US-China sanctions by China are expected to heat up the conflict between the United States and China.

A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the evening of the 27th that it would sanction some individuals and organizations in the United States and Canada over the kidney problem.

A foreign ministry spokesman accused the United States and Canada of imposing sanctions against China over the kidney problem based on lies and misinformation.

At the same time, the U.S. International Religious Freedom Commission (USCIRF) President and Vice-Chairman, Canadian Congressman Michael Chong, and the International Human Rights Subcommittee in the Canadian Parliament were put on the sanctions list.

Accordingly, they and their organizations are prohibited from entering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said, “The Chinese government is firmly determined to protect the national sovereignty, safety and development interests.”

“China urges countries concerned to accurately recognize the situation, correct their mistakes, stop political manipulation of the Xinjiang issue, and stop interfering in internal affairs in any form,” he said.

He also warned, “The more you go the wrong way, the farther you go, otherwise you will surely be self-contained.”

Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed concern over China’s retaliatory measures over the kidney problem in a phone call on the 26th (local time).

The United States, the United Kingdom, the EU and Canada imposed sanctions on Chinese officials on the 22nd for violating human rights in Xinjiang. This was the first joint response in which allies of the United States participated in large numbers after President Biden took office.

As a result, China immediately retaliated and put British politicians as well as the EU on the list of sanctions. In addition, China’s foreign ministers and defense ministers are simultaneously traveling abroad to promote the legitimacy of China’s policy on the Xinjiang issue.

A Beijing source said, “China’s stepping up retaliatory sanctions against the United States and its key ally, Canada, seems to be a sign of a conflict between the United States and China in various fields in the future, as a strong expression of retaliation that it is no longer acceptable in relation to the kidney problem.” .
