[이데일리 경계영 기자] From this year, it was diagnosed as an opportunity for domestic eco-friendly companies to actively advance as Chinese governments banned the use of disposable plastic products.

According to the “Status and Implications for the Implementation of China Plastics Restriction Policy” published on the 19th by the Chengdu Branch of the Korea International Trade Association, in accordance with the “Proposal for Reinforcing Plastic Pollution Control” released by the Chinese government in January last year, foam plastics have been applied in all regions of China from January 1 this year The production and sale of food containers and plastic swabs were banned.

Shampoos, conditioners, hand sanitizers, soaps, scrubs, and toothpastes added with fine plastic particles cannot be produced from this year, and sales will be banned from 2023. Plastic bags used in store sales and food delivery have been banned in major cities, including cities under direct control, and will not be available in most regions from 2026. The ban on the use of disposable plastic tableware and plastic packaging for parcels will also be applied in major cities this year, as well as the region before 2026. Moreover, in September last year, the Chinese government announced the “People’s Republic of China Solid Pollution Environment Control Act,” which would impose a fine of up to 100,000 yuan (about 17 million won) for violations of restrictions on the production, sale, and use of disposable plastic products. It means that it will respond strongly to plastic pollution.

Companies in related fields, such as restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and parcel delivery, also responded. McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and Sicha introduced paper straws and biodegradable plastic bags from last year instead of using plastic straws, tableware, and plastic bags. The food delivery platform, Meitou, is developing an eco-friendly packaging solution and providing it to stores, and is also developing a lunch box collection system. Wal-Mart has stopped providing non-degradable plastic bags in all cities under its control, and the Accor Hotel Group offers biodegradable disposable toiletries.

Go Beom-seo, head of the Chengdu branch of the International Trade Association, said, “According to the government policy, demand for plastic replacement products and eco-friendly biodegradable plastic products in China is expected to increase rapidly in the future.” “Korea has already sold cosmetics that do not contain microplastics, etc. As we are ahead in the field, we must actively preoccupy the market by emphasizing eco-friendliness and high stability.”
