On the 11th, the National People’s Congress (Non-in University), the parliament of China, passed a bill to reform the Hong Kong electoral system that only patriots loyal to the Chinese Communist Party can rule over Hong Kong. The passage of the reorganization of the election system has blocked the way for anti-Chinese forces in Hong Kong to advance into politics.

In May last year, China passed the Hong Kong National Security Law (Hong Kong Security Law) punishing anti-Chinese acts in Hong Kong during the NPC. Following the enactment of the Hong Kong Security Law last year, the completion of the reorganization of the election system this year accelerated China’s control of Hong Kong.

At a plenary meeting held at the Beijing People’s Congress on the afternoon of the closing day, the NPC passed the Hong Kong executive and legislative election reform bill with 2895 votes in favor and one abstention. No votes came out.

China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported that, after passing the reorganization bill, “Non-in University representatives and members of the National People’s Political Consultative Council (Political Association and Supreme Political Advisory Organization) will be included in the electoral corps to elect the Hong Kong administrative minister next year.” Following the reorganization of the electoral system, the number of electoral members of the Hong Kong executive minister will increase from 1200 to 1,500. It is the addition of 300 relatives.

The number of legislators in Hong Kong is currently rising from 70 to 90. Legislative council members are elected through direct elections, electoral corps and professional organizations.

A high-level committee is also established to examine the eligibility requirements of candidates for public office. There are observations that the committee will exclude opposition members from running.
