The Chinese government criticized the Harvard University professor’s claim for distorting Japanese military comfort women victims as “voluntary prostitutes.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hwa Chun-ying said at a regular briefing on the 19th when asking the Chinese government’s position on the thesis of Harvard University professor Mark Ramsey who recently denied the coercion of Japanese military comfort women.

“China’s position on the issue of comfort women is consistent and clear,” he said. “The forced recruitment of comfort women was a serious crime against humanity committed by Japanese militarism against victims in Asia and other countries during World War II.”

“This is an internationally recognized historical fact, and there is a lot of strong evidence.”

“We have always asked Japan to face history and reflect deeply, and to take concrete steps to gain trust from Asian neighbors and the international community.”

He added, “China glorifies the war of aggression and opposes all bad actions to deny or distort history.”

Previously, Professor Ramsey raised controversy in a dissertation titled “Sexual Contracts in the Pacific War,” claiming that the victims of Japanese military comfort women at the time were voluntary and certified prostitutes, so they were not “sex slaves” who were kidnapped by Japan and forced to prostitute.

Many Korean and American historians and legal scholars strongly criticized Professor Ramsey’s dissertation for distorting historical facts or for lack of evidence, and Harvard Korean student organizations issued condemnation statements and requested withdrawal of the thesis.

The day before, the US State Department also announced its position on the comfort women of the Japanese military, “As it has been said many times, the trafficking of women for sexual purposes by the Japanese military during World War II is a terrible violation of human rights.”

Meanwhile, the International Legal and Economic Review, an international academic journal that has decided to publish Professor Ramsey’s thesis, also expressed its concern through its official website, saying, “We inform you that concerns have been raised about the historical evidence contained in the paper.” Announced.
