An accident occurred on the 13th in which six people were injured due to a chemical spill at the LG Display plant in Paju, Gyeonggi-do.

According to LG Display, TMAH (tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide) leaked during the piping connection work in the P8 plant, which has a large LCD panel production line, at around 2:10 pm on the same day, causing personal injury. The E3 fab that produces OLED is also located in the plant.

The casualties identified so far are 2 seriously injured and 4 minorly injured. Two cases of severe injuries were reported to have recovered from cardiopulmonary resuscitation from cardiac arrest.

An official from LG Display said, “I immediately reported the accident to the Environment Agency, the Ministry of Labor, the fire department, and the police station, and then, after responding to 119 paramedics and patients, I transferred (patient) to an adjacent hospital.”

Currently, the valve that has leaked TMAH is shut off. The management took measures to prevent secondary damage from the emergency exhaust operation. LG Display said, “I would like to express my sincere consolation and apology for the part where the injury occurred,” and said, “We will do our best to recover the injured employee.”

On the other hand, LG Display immediately set up a countermeasure headquarters for accidents and began to identify the cause of the accident. A company official said, “We will do our best to investigate the cause and deal with accidents through cooperation with related organizations.”
