Koo Ja-yeol, chairman of the International Trade Association, visited the’International Medical Equipment and Hospital Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2021)’ held at COEX on the 18th to listen to the opinions of exhibitors and participating companies, and promised to make efforts to revitalize the exhibition industry.

KIMES is one of the largest exhibitions in Korea to use the entire COEX hall for the first time since the outbreak of Corona 19 last year.

Exhibitions are a very important means of revitalizing domestic demand by promoting new technologies and products by companies, increasing exports through discovery of overseas buyers, and increasing sales of many exhibition service companies.

However, the draft of the 4th stage of social distancing, announced by the Central Accident Control Center on the 5th, suggests significantly strengthened standards compared to the previous ones, making it difficult to hold the exhibition.

If the new standards are confirmed, it is estimated that the number of visitors will decrease by about 40% in the first stage of distancing and more than 57% in the second stage, making it difficult to hold the exhibition itself.

Accordingly, the Korea International Trade Association suggested to the government that the standards for the social distancing number limit be relaxed so that the exhibition can be held without the number of visitors until the second phase of the social distancing reform plan.

Lee Dong-gi, head of the Innovation Growth Division of the Korea International Trade Association, said, “Excessive number of people may make it difficult for visitors to enter the exhibition hall, preventing small and medium-sized businesses from exhibiting marketing opportunities, and increasing difficulties in the exhibition industry, which is the national trade infrastructure. It is higher than above, and air conditioning facilities are always in operation, and quarantine is being implemented more strictly than the standards of the quarantine authorities, so a more rational standard for limiting personnel is needed.”
