Since the start of the M16 construction in November 2018, SK Hynix has invested a total of 3.5 trillion won and 3.34 million people in the construction workforce to complete the construction in 25 months. M16, which will mainly produce DRAM products, has a building area of ​​57,000 m2 (17,000 pyeong) equivalent to eight soccer fields, and is 336m long, 163m wide, and 105m high, reaching the 37th floor of an apartment. It is the largest of SK Hynix’s domestic and overseas production facilities.

In particular, SK Hynix’s first EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) exposure equipment will be introduced in the M16. SK hynix plans to grow this fab as a next-generation growth engine based on state-of-the-art infrastructure. It is expected to produce 4th generation 10-nano class (1a) DRAM products from the second half of this year using EUV equipment. If the utilization of this equipment is further increased in the future, the leadership in the technology of memory semiconductor microprocessing is expected to be strengthened.

The completion of the M16 is also meaningful in that it is an early achievement of the’future vision’ announced by SK Hynix at the completion ceremony of the M14 in Icheon in 2015. At the time, SK Hynix announced plans to build three new fabs in Korea, including M14, within 10 years from 2014 to secure continued leadership in the semiconductor industry. After that, the M16 was completed this time following the Cheongju M15 in 2018, completing the future vision three years earlier.
