Chae Hyeon-guk, the chairman of Hyoam Academy, was as simple as the footsteps of the deceased, who had personally practiced the life of sharing.

On the 2nd, when he passed away at the age of 86, the inauguration ceremony of the chairman was strictly followed at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 5th. More than 50 people, including bereaved families and officials from the Institute of Ethnology, attended the event and sent off the deceased. The kick-off ceremony, which was scheduled to be held at 9 am, started about 20 minutes earlier and ended around 9:10 am. The ceremony was performed simply with a Jinhongut consisting of Bongsan Mask Dance and Salpuri Dance. Jangji is a Hanmaeum sailor in Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do.

Chairman Chae’s funeral was held as the family head, not the chairman. It is in accordance with the will of the bereaved family that they want to keep the funeral quietly while the deceased has not left any maintenance for the funeral. However, since the deceased had served as the chairman of the Institute of Ethnic Aesthetics and supported cultural artists, he performed a Jinhongut to comfort the souls of the deceased by respecting the opinions of junior cultural artists. An official of the Institute of Ethnic Aesthetics explained, “I have to commemorate the work that Chairman Chae has done alive as the chairman of the society, but I wanted the bereaved family to proceed quietly.”

Chairman Chae was a strong supporter to those who were confronting the dictatorship, providing shelter to those who lived in the fleeing life of the democratic movement and buying houses for dismissed reporters living in a rented room. When organizing the coal mine company inherited from his father, he distributed 10 years’ worth of severance pay to miners and business partners.

President Moon Jae-in, who sent harmony to the deceased’s slum, expressed his condolences at the Social Network Service (SNS). President Moon said, “After the presidential election, I gave a call and said,’Let’s not make a phone call while in office,’ which became the last conversation.” He remembered that he lived a life of no possession and innocent by himself.”
