Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University) secured a maximum of two tickets to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics as he achieved the best results in the world championships in the history of Korean men’s figure skating.

Cha Jun-hwan was awarded a technical score (TES) of 72.90 points, an art score (PCS) of 82.94 points in the men’s single free skating at the 2021 International Ice Skating Federation (ISU) World Championships in Figure Skating held at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden on the 27th (hereinafter referred to as Korean time). He scored 154.84 points.

Cha Jun-hwan, who recorded 91.15 points in the short program on the 26th, marked 10th with a final score of 245.99.

Cha Jun-hwan is the first Korean male player to reach 10th place in the World Figure Skating Championships. Prior to Cha Jun-hwan, Jeong Seong-il’s 14th place in 1991 was the highest record ever, but Cha Jun-hwan broke the record in 20 years.

With Cha Jun-hwan’s performance, Korea succeeded in securing up to two men’s singles at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China next year.

“It’s been a long time since it’s been a long time since it’s been a long time since it’s been a long time, so I’ve been very nervous since the short, so I kept trying to find a sense of composure. Free skating changed the program structure a little, but I made a mistake and left a lot of regret. But I’m glad to be in the top 10.” Thank you to the many people who did,” he said.

“I arrived in Sweden and so far I was able to go to the stadium connected to the hotel, so I was desperate for the cool outside wind, but I am grateful that the tournament can be held. I have endured with painkillers. When I return to Korea, I will get enough rest and start preparing for the Beijing Olympics right away,” he added.

Cha Jun-hwan started acting to the music of’The Fire with In’. He tried the first jump, the triple flip, and made a good start with success.

However, the second jump task, Quadruple Salco, was deducted for lack of jump rotation. Then, when the triple Axel-Double Torpu combination jump, he fell and again reduced his performance score (GOE) by 4 points.

Cha Jun-hwan, who found stability in the middle of the game, finished the game with a clean triple flip-single oiler-triple salco combination, and cleans the final jump, the true loop.

Meanwhile, Nathan Chen of the United States won the tournament with 320.88 points, achieving three consecutive World Championships. This was followed by Yuma Kagiyama (291.77 points in Japan) and Yuzuru Hanyu (289.18 points in Japan).
