Harman International, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics’ automotive electronic equipment (electronic equipment) business, held’Harman Media Day’ on the 7th (US local time) and unveiled’Digital Cockpit 2021′.

The digital cockpit is a product that digitizes the vehicle convenience function control device in front of the driver’s seat and passenger seat of a car. Samsung Electronics and Harman first introduced the digital cockpit at’CES 2018′.

The’Digital Cockpit 2021′ jointly developed by Samsung Electronics and Harman is characterized by reinforcing the infotainment (information·entertainment) system so that the inside of the vehicle can be turned into a’third living space’ while on the move.

The front side is equipped with a 49-inch QLED large display and a JBL sound system to enhance the entertainment experience. In addition, video conferencing is also possible through the central display of the rear seats, allowing company work to be handled on the go.

A’studio mode’ that can be used as a’creator studio’ has also been added. With the in-cabin camera installed on the top of the seat, passengers can be photographed and edited in the car, allowing one-person media video production.

A 55-inch QLED display is mounted on the rear of the car, allowing users to enjoy content outdoors such as camping.

Samsung Health Service, which was mainly applied to existing smartphones, is also a feature of’Digital Cockpit 2021′.

The Samsung Health Solution for Vehicles analyzes physical activity and records before boarding through a mobile device, and monitors the physical condition in real time by periodically checking the driver’s health using an in-vehicle driver monitoring camera and wearable/mobile devices. It is a method to prevent drowsiness by inducing indoor ventilation and delivering a caution message when notification is needed by grasping the sleep pattern of the previous night and the current eyelid movement. By checking the stress level, you can change the driving environment, such as lighting, scent, and music, according to the condition of the passenger.

Functions for vehicle driver and pedestrian safety were also supplemented.

The ‘360 Vision Monitoring System’ that can look at all angles with four cameras in the front and rear of the vehicle and deep learning technology is introduced, which recognizes the surroundings in real time and signals the driver when moving or parking. The display in the front of the vehicle allows notification messages to be sent to pedestrians outside, and selective notifications can be delivered to only specific pedestrians through directional speakers.

Last year, for the first time in the world, the vehicle communication equipment (TCU) technology to which the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication technology was applied was also improved.

For fast communication with nearby vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure, ‘5G ㎜Wave’, which has low latency and can accommodate large amounts of information at once, was applied to vehicles for the first time in the industry. In order to implement 5G ultra-high frequency technology,’array antenna beamforming’ technology was applied to realize stable connectivity and high transmission speed by increasing the range of motion while reducing ambient interference.

Through this, Samsung Electronics expects to implement a variety of services such as autonomous driving, as well as cluster driving in which one driver leads multiple vehicles, and remote control driving that remotely moves an unmanned autonomous vehicle.
