[CES 2021]”OLED becomes everyday”… LG Display expands ecosystem with new technology weapons

LG Display is going to mass-produce 83-inch and 42-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels this year. With the new organic light emitting device technology as an weapon, the panel product line is greatly expanded, accelerating the establishment of the OLED ecosystem. It presented a blueprint to lead the future market by distributing OLED to all of our daily life including TV.

LG Display (CEO Jeong Ho-young) first unveiled a 77-inch OLED TV panel at’CES 2021′, which opened online on the 11th (local time). It is a new technology that improves the organic light-emitting device that forms OLED and increases the luminous efficiency by more than 20% compared to the previous one. When the luminous efficiency increases, the luminance (brightness of the light source) increases, and a clearer screen can be realized.

An official from LG Display explained, “We converted the organic material required for the organic light emitting device into a highly efficient material, and added one light emitting layer in the device.”

LG Display will first apply the next-generation OLED TV panel introduced at CES 2021 from the high-end model to be released this year. It is also planning to mass-produce 83-inch and 42-inch OLED TV panels within this year. Following the existing 88·77·65·55·48 inches, it is a strategy to target various market demands by adding two new sized OLED panels. In particular, 83-inch panels are planned to be produced simultaneously with 48-inch panels by applying the multi-model glass (MMG) method to maximize ledger efficiency.

Kang Won-seok, LG Display’s managing director in charge of TV product planning, said, “The 83·42 inch is the size that can maximize price competitiveness while providing new value to the market.” said.

LG Display also announced plans to expand its mid-sized OLED lineup from 20 inches to 30 inches on this day. The scope of the OLED ecosystem, which started with large TVs, will be expanded to all directions, including automobiles, gaming education, hobbies, mobility, and personal displays. He emphasized that it will continue to introduce differentiated products such as’Film Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO)’ that realizes a thin design while playing sound on the screen.

In this exhibition hall, LG Display has △13.3-inch foldable (foldable) OLED-based notebook △48-inch bendable (bendable) OLED monitor △Rollable (rollable) OLED panel for vehicles △built-in transparent OLED panel It showed off and drew attention. Guru Gorapan, the CEO of Verizon Media, a subsidiary of Verizon in the United States, recently selected LG Display’s transparent OLED panel as the most anticipated product at CES this year.

“OLED is the only display solution that satisfies both high-definition and eye health in the era of Corona 19,” said Yoon Soo-young, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Display.
