Chinese and Japanese TV makers such as TCL, Hisense, and Sony presented their new TV products at CES 2021, challenging the world’s No. 1 and 2 Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.

In particular, Chinese companies are changing the composition of the premium TV market, centered on Samsung QLED (QD-LCD, quantum dot liquid crystal display) and LG organic light emitting diode (OLED), with mini light-emitting diode (LED) TVs and laser TVs with price competitiveness. To seek. In the case of Sony in Japan, based on OLED TV, it has promoted gaming performance enhancement and Google cooperation.

China’s TCL, which is the third largest in the global market after Samsung and LG, introduced a new mini LED TV’OD Zero Mini LED TV’ at this year’s CES. It is the 3rd generation version of the mini LED that was introduced in 2018. ‘Zero’ used in the product name means that the distance between the backlight (BL) using the mini LED and the liquid crystal display (LCD) panel is close to ‘0 (zero)’. It emphasizes the thin and high-definition panel.

TCL also unveiled a large 85-inch’Xlarge Collection’ and 8K TV. In particular, for 85-inch products, TCL set $1599 (about 1.75 million won) in North America, which is much cheaper than similar-sized Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics TVs.

In the United States, it was reported that TCL is being reviewed recently as the second Huawei. Semiconductors installed on TCL TVs leak personal information of Americans to China and pose a serious threat to national security. The US is a major market accounting for about 36% of TCL’s sales, and analysis shows that the launch of various new products at CES 2021 is a courtship for the US.

China’s Hisense, which has been ranked 4th to 5th in the world, knocked on the door of CES with a new product of laser TV,’Trichroma Laser TV’. Laser TV is Hisense’s proprietary technology that reflects images on the screen using a laser light source. In the new product, the light source was changed from the existing dual color to an RGB (red, green, blue) laser structure to improve fine control and color purity. The brightness of the pixel level has improved by 20% compared to the previous one, and Hisense claimed that the picture quality is superior to that of Samsung QLED or LG OLED.

Hisense also added a mini LED TV and 8K TV to the premium product line Ultra Light-Emitting Diode (ULED). Hisense, who is also a sponsor of the European national football game’Euro 2020′, plans to release the ULED U7 series in time for the Euro 2020 tournament, which has been postponed due to the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19). Hisense explains that it supports XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) with a refresh rate of 144㎐, creating a sense of immersion suitable for sports events.

Sony, which is prominent in the premium market, announced that it will diversify the size of OLED panels supplied from LG Display to 55·66·77 inches.

In addition, in the case of existing LCD TVs, the improved picture quality was put out as an advantage through an artificial intelligence (AI) processor and local dimming (a technology that divides the TV backlight into multiple areas and adjusts the picture quality). Sony AI is a technology that detects the focus of the TV viewer and analyzes numerous image quality factors to realize an image that is close to human memory, and is expected to be applied to all TV products in the future.

It also announced a collaboration with Google. Google TV is applied to premium TV products. Google TV is the world’s first smart TV, unveiled in 2010, and provides various services based on the Android operating system (OS). It implements online video services (OTT) such as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Video, and HBO GO on TV, and supports voice search and smartphone linkage.

Sony also emphasized that its TV is optimized for the gaming performance of the 9th generation console game console Sony PlayStation 5. It is said that the refresh rate has been increased to better express the performance of the console game machine in an image.
