On the morning of the 12th (U.S. local time), AMD unveiled the Ryzen 5000 series processors for notebooks through an online keynote address at CES 2021.

On the day, CEO Lisasu emphasized that “AMD is the only company that currently offers an 8-core processor for slim notebooks.” Will”.

■ “Ryzen 5800U, superior to Intel”

The Ryzen 5000 processor for notebooks unveiled on this day is based on the Zen 3 architecture that AMD unveiled in October last year, and has a total of 13 types, including the U series for slim notebooks and the HS/HX series, a high-performance lineup for game and content creation. It will be released to the market.

AMD announced that the Ryzen 7 5800U processor, the top product in the U series, has improved single-threaded (one-core) performance by up to 16% compared to the previous generation, and multithreaded (multitasking) performance improved by up to 14% compared to the previous generation.

CEO Lisasu also said, “The Ryzen 5800U processor is superior to competitors in productivity, rendering, and video editing,” based on the graph comparing the 11th generation Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor.

However, the built-in graphics chipset installed in the U series is still’Radeon Vega Graphics’, which is the same as previous generation products such as Ryzen 4800U. As if AMD was conscious of this, this year, unlike last year, passed without much comment regarding graphics performance.

In addition, the three products: Ryzen 3 5300U (4 cores 8 threads), Ryzen 5 5500U (6 cores 12 threads), and Ryzen 7 5700U (8 cores 16 threads) are based on the previous architecture, Zen 2. Only the top products in the U series are based on the Zen3 architecture.

■ First release of HX series with enhanced overclocking performance

AMD has launched the HS series as a high-performance processor for notebooks for game and content creation. Starting this year, the HX series will be added here.

“Gamers want desktop PC-class performance even in notebooks,” said CEO Lisasu.

The new HX series added to the lineup are the Ryzen 9 5980HX and the Ryzen 9 5900HX.

The top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 5980HX operates with 8 cores and 16 threads, with a base clock of 3.3GHz and up to 4.8GHz. For overclock stability, the power consumption has also been increased to 45W or more.
