If there is a cosmetic or functional abnormality due to uneven dentition, orthodontics is the most preferred dental treatment. Orthodontics is a method of attaching orthodontic devices to teeth to induce movement to the correct position of the teeth over a long period of time so that they can function properly.

However, there are many patients who are reluctant to start orthodontic treatment easily because they are concerned about pain in the orthodontic process. In fact, some patients feel pain in their teeth when performing orthodontic procedures. Orthodontic teeth are basically a method of applying pressure to the periodontal ligament using the orthodontic force of an orthodontic device such as a wire, and through this, the teeth move neatly, so pressure is applied to the nerves and blood vessels of the periodontal ligament, so that you can feel pain.

Such pain during orthodontic treatment may occur at an early stage, but decreases as time passes, and pain and discomfort decrease after about 3 months. Nevertheless, pain is inevitably a factor that makes the orthodontic treatment hesitate. In addition, the discomfort of the brace during the orthodontic treatment period and the hassle of visiting the dentist are also considered difficult factors to determine orthodontic treatment.

Even with similar orthodontic treatment methods, the difference in the length of treatment period for each individual is often determined by extraction and non-extraction. The difference can be about 6 months just by whether or not the teeth are extracted. Also, depending on the patient’s tooth movement speed, the treatment period is inevitably different. Depending on how quickly the inflammation that occurs when teeth move, it is decided whether it is possible to proceed to the next treatment step. In general, adolescents who are in the growth stage and recover faster have a faster correction period than adults.

The treatment period can also change depending on the degree of cooperation of the patient. In the process of orthodontic treatment, the patient’s own habits are affected, so the period may change according to the patient’s habits, and further treatment completion may be influenced.

Despite the need for correction due to the burden of such pain or the time required for treatment, not to visit a dentistry may worsen the condition of the teeth in the future, so caution is required. You don’t just rely on dental treatment and guidance, but only with personal effort, you will be able to reduce pain and time.
