The city of Seoul announced today (15th) that a cat raised by a family of corona19 confirmed patients was confirmed.

This is the first case that a companion animal was tested positive for Corona 19 in Seoul.

The city has been testing corona 19 on companion animals from the 8th of this month as domestic cases in which cats and dogs have been confirmed have been confirmed since the end of last month, and so far, 3 dogs and 1 cat have been tested.

The cat confirmed this time in Seoul was a 4-5 year old female and had symptoms of vomiting and decreased activity. On the 10th of this month, the cat was transferred to a temporary shelter and tested positive yesterday.

All of the cat’s guardians’ families have been confirmed with Corona 19.

The city explained that the cat’s specimens were collected at a temporary shelter on the 13th, and both were positive in the first test at the Animal Sanitation Laboratory at the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment and the second test at the Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine Headquarters.

This cat has been transferred to the Seoul Animal Welfare Support Center and is being quarantined.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained, “The quarantine period is 14 days from the date of confirmation, but the current condition of the cat is in good condition, so if there are no clinical symptoms, we will conduct a detailed examination and remove the quarantine if negative.”

The city added, “The cat that has been confirmed this time is protected by the Animal Welfare Support Center because the entire family is confirmed and cannot be cared for, and pets with guardians are quarantined at home.”

The city explained, “There is no evidence that Corona 19 is spread from pets to humans in overseas cases, so there is no need to be too anxious.”

Companion animal Corona 19 infection cases known so far are cases of transmission from humans to companion animals.

The city urged, “However, for the safety of citizens and animals, when walking a dog, keep a distance of at least 2m from other people and animals, and follow the quarantine regulations, such as wearing a mask and washing hands thoroughly.”
