(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Ha Chae-rim = Hanwha Insurance’s plan to hand over all shares of Carrot Insurance to Hanwha Asset Management has been canceled.

Hanwha Insurance Corporation announced on the 25th that it had agreed to cancel the Carrot Insurance stock disposal contract signed with Hanwha Asset Management in September last year.

Hanwha Insurance said, “Within eight months from the date of signing the contract, it became difficult to close the transaction, including approval of the change of major shareholders, so the contract was canceled by agreement between the parties.”

An official from Hanwha Insurance explained, “Hanwha Life Insurance received an institutional warning from the financial authorities last year and canceled the contract because its subsidiary Hanwha Asset Management could not become the largest shareholder of Carrot Insurance.”

Earlier in September of last year, Hanwha Insurance signed a contract to dispose of the 68% stake in Carrot Insurance to Hanwha Asset Management.

At the time, Hanwha Insurance explained that it was selling its stake in Carrot Insurance to affiliates to strengthen financial soundness.

It has not been decided whether Hanwha Life Insurance will resume the sale of its stake in Carrot Insurance after the sanctions period ends.

An official from Hanwha Insurance said, “After the contract for the sale of Carrot Insurance last year, earnings have improved a lot and the current financial soundness is less pressured,” he added. “We will support to increase the value of Carrot Insurance.
