Hong Kong Executive Minister Carrie Ram expressed his intention to welcome the reorganization of the Hong Kong election system, which was selected as an agenda at the National People’s Congress (Non-in University), which opened on the 5th.

According to Reuters, Minister Ram said at a press conference on the 8th, “The reorganization of the election system will improve Hong Kong’s self-government capabilities.”

In recent years, the Chinese government is pushing for a reform of the electoral system to strengthen direct control over Hong Kong with the premise that’patriots should rule Hong Kong’.

On the day, Minister Lam also raised the possibility that the Hong Kong parliamentary legislative election, which was postponed for one year from September last year to September this year, will be delayed again.

He argued that “logically, the legislative elections should be held after the electoral election of the executive ministers scheduled for December this year.”

Earlier, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that it is certain that the legislative election will be postponed for another one year to next September due to the effect of the reorganization of the election system.

Currently, the legislative assembly consists of 35 seats for elected positions and 35 seats for functional representatives, and the Chinese government plans to reduce these to 30 seats each, and then elect the remaining 30 additional members from the electoral committee of the executive minister.

Accordingly, it is explained that the legislative election scheduled for September this year will be delayed again after the electoral election of the executive minister scheduled for December.
