Kim Jin-wook, a senior researcher at the Constitutional Court, who is one of the two final candidates for the first high-ranking officials criminal investigation office (public prosecution office) chief, lives in a private house in Daechi-dong, Seoul with a deposit of over 1.2 billion won. Since the Commissioner for Recommendation of the Minister of Public Affairs has cited the reason for the recommendation of Researcher Kim, “it is honest because he does not own real estate”, the standards of integrity are expected to become an issue at the National Assembly personnel hearing.

As a result of an interview with the Hankook Ilbo on the 29th, it was confirmed that Kim is living on a charter with a deposit of 1.25 billion won in an apartment in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. This apartment is located right next to the Daechi-dong academy street, which is counted as the’private education no. 1′, and the sale price ranges from 1.8 billion won (20 pyeong) to 2.6 billion won (40 pyeong). Researcher Kim, who owned an apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul, was reported to have disposed of the apartment a few years ago before going to study abroad with constitutional support, and returned to Korea to obtain a charter in Daechi-dong as part of the apartment sale price. A person familiar with the process of recommending candidates for the Minister of Public Transport said, “I know that I moved to Daechi-dong to educate my children.”

Researcher Kim said that the entire property, including the apartment deposit, is about 2 billion won. Although it is not a small fortune, the recommendation committee saw that it is not an’abnormal wealth growth’ in light of the fact that he worked as a former lawyer at Kim & Chang for more than 10 years from 1998 to 2010 after leaving the judge.

However, there is room for the power of the public to be a problem when the Ministry of Public Affairs Recommendation said that, as a reason for the recommendation of Researcher Kim, “they showed integrity as a legal person, such as living in a house on a charter basis without owning the current real estate.” This is because, depending on the viewpoint, you can think that living in a private house of 1.25 billion won in Gangnam was described as a’click’. Direct comparison is difficult, but former Congressman Lee Hye-hoon said in an interview that he said, “I know the sadness of living in a jeonse,” and was known to live in a jeonse with a deposit of 2 billion won.

Regarding this, a passport official explained, “The other candidates for the head of the airlift had much more wealth, such as 13 billion and 6 billion, and the researcher Kim had relatively few.” When I found the chief of public transport among the former lawyers, it was said that in general, I had to have a lot of wealth.

Geon-ri Lee, vice-chairman of the Civil Rights Commission, the other candidate for the Minister of Public Affairs, reported a single apartment in Suseo-dong, Gangnam-gu, as real estate at the time of the disclosure of the property of high-ranking public officials in March (796 million won, published price). The recent actual transaction price of the same flat water apartment exceeded 1.6 billion won. He reported his total fortune at about 1.76 billion won.

President Moon Jae-in appoints Geum Myeong-gan one of the two as the final candidate.
