Can I eat food at the highway rest area during the Lunar New Year holidays?

For those who use the highway to go somewhere, the existence of an oasis in the desert is a rest area. Before Corona 19, there were so many places to eat that there was a list of rest area restaurants, and places with a wealth of attractions such as Haengdamdo Island, which is famous for certified shots of sunset spots, Deokpyeong, which is easy to enjoy with pets, and Naerincheon Rest Area, reminiscent of an art museum, were also famous.

Unfortunately, during the Lunar New Year holidays this year, highway rest areas also participate in the crisis response to prevent corona 19 infection. During the Lunar New Year holidays, the Korea Expressway Corporation established and delivered special quarantine measures for rest facilities during the Lunar New Year holiday, which prohibits eating and drinking at rest areas on expressways.

This measure takes place at all expressway rest areas managed by Korea Expressway Corporation for a total of 5 days from the 10th to the 14th during the Lunar New Year holidays. Indoor stores sell only packaged menus, as the risk of infection may increase due to crowding of customers, but outdoor stores and convenience stores that sell snacks are normally operated.

Accordingly, customers visiting the rest area must prepare food in advance or eat the food purchased at the rest area in the car or at an outdoor table with a transparent screen.

Since January 30th, the national rest area, which has been operating by separating the entrance and exit of stores and toilets, has around 1,200 personnel in charge of quarantine wearing yellow vests to manage access, such as checking heat, and to guide the wearing of masks and keeping distance.

In addition, the existing simple phone check-in, electronic (QR) and manual list, as well as a simple entry and exit list, are planned to minimize confusion and waiting lines at the entrance of the rest area.

An official of the Korea Expressway Corporation said, “We hope that customers who use the highway during the Lunar New Year holidays have enough rest at the rest area while driving, and actively cooperate with the guidance of quarantine personnel when using stores and toilets.
