Byun Chang-heum “Responsible for taking control, but don’t stick to the seat…I follow the decision”

“I haven’t expressed my appreciation to the president yet…I will consider various things to judge.”

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byun Chang-heum leaves the conference room at the General Assembly of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee held at the National Assembly on the 12th.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byun Chang-heum said on the 12th that the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) on the theory of responsibility related to the alleged land speculation, “I do not dwell on the seat” and “I will follow the decision of (Cheongwadae).”

Minister Byeon attended the general meeting of the National Assembly’s National Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on that day, saying, “We will make the best possible alternatives to alleviate the concerns of the people due to the LH crisis, and we will take responsibility and push forward so that LH can be fundamentally reborn.” When this is not evaluated as sufficient, I will not dwell on the seat and follow the decision at any time,” he said.

After it was revealed that some of the LH’s employees were the pre-owners of the 3rd new towns such as Gwangmyeong Siheung and the land around them as new towns, a responsibility for Minister Byeon, formerly LH president, has emerged.

In particular, 11 out of 20 people who were referred to the police were found to have been speculating on the ground when Minister Byeon was in office as president of LH.

When asked by Rep. Kim Eun-hye, the power of the people, “Have you expressed your appreciation to the President,” Minister Byeon replied, “There hasn’t been yet.”

When Rep. Kim asked again, “Do you have any plans to express your appreciation then,” he said, “I will consider various things to judge.”

However, Minister Byeon repeatedly emphasized his intention to resolve the situation and devote itself to supplying public-led housing proposed through the 2nd and 4th measures.

Minister Byun added that the Democratic Party’s Rep. Moon Jeong-bok asked for “the second and fourth measures and other existing supply measures without a hitch”. If you do, we cannot guarantee how the market will move,” he said.

People’s Power Rep. Song Seok-joon asked, “Wouldn’t the government’s public-led development be completely revised?” Minister Byeon said, “I think the public-led policy can be promoted based on public trust.” “I will reflect on painfully and prepare an institutional arrangement to prevent this from happening again,” he said.

Minister Byeon added, “With these solid basics, I would like to say that I have no choice but to promote the (housing supply) business strongly with the public initiative,” he added.

Secretary Byeon also suggested a plan to disperse LH’s work, which was revealed to be a serious problem, to other public institutions.

He said, “We will make up for the lack of LH by mobilizing the Korea Real Estate Agency, Korea Land Information Corporation (LX), and Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG),” he said.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun announced the results of the first joint governmental investigation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and LH employees the day before, saying, “Minister Byun cannot be free from responsibility,” and “I will consider (about his move).”

Minister Byeon took office as Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 29 last year, and has been serving as minister for 74 days until that day.
