4.7 On the last weekend of the Busan Mayor’s by-election, the ruling and opposition leaders focused on Busan and held an all-out war. In addition, Democratic Party candidate Kim Young-chun said that the atmosphere of public sentiment is changing, and Park Hyeong-joon, the power of the people who put the theory of government judgment in the first place, began to solidify. Minority party candidates continued to appeal for support through the last weekend campaign. The pre-voting rate of the 4.7 Busan Mayor’s by-election held on the 2nd and 3rd was 18.6%.
Weekend campaign intensive battle for opposition candidates
Democratic Party candidate Kim Young-chun, who took the lead in “the economic market that will save Busan,” continued the campaign that concentrated his party power on the 3rd and 4th. On the 3rd, in front of Pusan National University, a university district in Busan, Lee Nak-yeon, Democratic Party Chairman of the Central Party’s Permanent Election Countermeasures, and Kim Tae-nyeon, party representative and standing chairman, took part in a joint campaign.
Chairman Nak-yeon Lee and others expressed anticipation, seeing the supporters gathered in the campaign, saying, “I am confident today that I may be elected if this trend continues.” Candidate Kim also emphasized the powerful ruling party mayor, saying, “If you open your mouth, you cannot get cooperation with the government and the National Assembly as the mayor of the opposition party to judge the regime.”
On the next day, on the 4th, candidate Kim announced a policy pledge to build a tourist belt in the southern region from Boulgyeong to the southern coast, and in the afternoon headed to the original city center of Busan, including Gwangbok-ro. During the campaign, he appealed, “I came down to save my hometown from falling to inherit the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun, and I fell for one of the four elections,” he said. “But this time, please choose me even for Busan,” he appealed.
Candidate Park Hyung-joon, who shouts’Government Judge’, also started to solidify the approval rating with the support of the central level. During the weekend, Yoo Seung-min, Chairman of the Central Party’s Joint Seondae Chairman, and Kim Jong-in, Chairman of the Non-Seondae Chairman and Standing Seondae Chairman, took a campaign with Park. Chairman Yoo Seung-min, who helped Park candidate at Haeundae on the 3rd, appealed, “I ask you to judge the Democratic Party, which launched a shameful market such as sexual harassment.”
On the 4th, Chairman Kim Jong-in, who had a joint campaign with Candidate Park in Nam-gu, said, “I am confident that I will never make the successor of sexual violence mayor,” at the same time as the regime judgment theory. He mentioned the high pre-voting rate and emphasized the consolidation of the conservatives again, saying, “I am confident that Park will be elected by a large margin.” Chairman Kim Jong-in said, “Don’t just think that you’re very ahead, everyone go to the polls and get elected with more votes.”

Candidate Kim Young-chun held a separate press conference and pressed opposition candidates with six major corruption gates, such as’L-City real estate controversy,”Suspicion of preferential delivery of sculptures to the National Assembly,’ and’Illegal inspection order’. Mirae Party candidate Sang-woo Sang-woo announced a pledge saying,’We need an independent city, not a new airport’, and participated in the Myanmar Democratization Movement Solidarity Campaign. Minsaeng Party candidate Bae Joon-hyun announced the 14th policy pledge to build eco-friendly Busan by completing the Haeundae Arboretum.
Candidate Gyeong-jae of the Liberal Democratic Party also made a street campaign in front of Seomyeon Station and in Dongbusan. Candidate Jeong-Hyun Roh continued the schedule of walking campaigns in Yeonje-gu and Busanjin-gu to meet the 19,7747 people who participated in the signing for a referendum request for the closure of the US military bacteria laboratory.
According to the Central Election Countermeasure Committee on the 5th, 54,7499 people participated in the preliminary voting for the Busan mayoral by-election. The nationwide pre-voting rate was calculated at 20.54%, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than the pre-voting rate of 20.14% for the 6.13 local elections in 2018.
The ruling and opposition candidates will go all over Busan on the 5th, two days after Election Day, to focus their efforts on gathering the last-minute support tax.
