This name change has been 30 years since the opening of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency in 1991. The Busan Police Agency, which was launched in 1949 as the’Gyeongsangnam-do Police Bureau’, has been changed to the’Busan City Police Bureau’ in 1963 and the’Busan Regional Police Agency’ in 1991.
■Busan self-governing police launched in July
The name change by the Busan Police Agency is a measure in accordance with the enforcement of the Police Act, with the introduction of the autonomous police system and the establishment of the National Investigation Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as “noodle version”).
The word’local’ included in the names of administrative agencies such as the Busan Regional Tax Office or the Busan Regional Construction Management Office contains the meaning of’sharing national affairs’ within the region.
However, due to the amendment to the Police Act,’local’ was deleted from the name of the Busan police. The name reflects the purpose of the amendment to the law that the Busan Police Department will perform autonomous police affairs in addition to the state police affairs.
Prior to the implementation of the autonomous police system, the Busan Police Agency organized a working-level self-governing police team headed by the 3rd department head. 2 new units with enhanced investigation function
