Unified management of building energy use data In the future, it is expected to be able to objectively grasp how much energy used in buildings has been saved.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 17th that it will finalize and announce the draft national standard (KS) for the’Building Energy Management System’ (BEMS).

BEMS is a state-of-the-art information and communication technology (ICT) system that collects and analyzes energy use data in real time through sensors attached to major spaces and facilities in a building and uses it for energy consumption reduction.

The government has promoted dissemination by mandating the installation of BEMS in public buildings with a total floor area of 10,000 square meters or more.

However, the data management system was different for each BEMS supplier, and there was a problem in data compatibility and exchange between companies. There was no systematic verification method to objectively confirm the energy saving effect.

The standard proposed this time standardizes data management and performance analysis systems, including data collection, analysis, and utilization, throughout the entire operating cycle.

The Ministry of Industry will distribute a technical guide reflecting this standard to BEMS suppliers.

When BEMS is installed, the investment cost tax credit is provided, and when energy savings of 4 to 5% or more are achieved, the mandatory energy diagnosis is exempted.

“The ICT-based energy management system is a key means to increase the energy efficiency of the building sector, which accounts for about 20% of the total domestic energy consumption,” said Joo Young-joon, head of the Ministry of Industry’s Energy Resources Division. .
