Minari shows possibility of Korean actor nomination for an acting award

Group BTS and actor Yoon Yeo-jung will challenge the first record as a Korean pop singer and actor in the United States on the 15th. However, the winners of the’Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ category nominated as nominations will be announced at the’Premiere Ceremony’ (Pre-Award Ceremony), which will be held from 4 a.m. Korean time prior to the awards ceremony.
‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ is a section where the collaborations of top singers and pop groups have collided. BTS’ mega hit song’Dynamite’ will compete with songs such as Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga this year and trophies.
Previously, in the classical category, Soprano Jo Soo-mi and record engineer Hwang Byung-jun had a history of winning Grammy, but BTS was the first Korean pop singer to be nominated. BTS J-Hope said in an interview with USA Today in the United States, “I played music while growing up at the Grammy Awards, so my reputation remains so deeply in my heart.”

On the same day, at 9:30 p.m. (8:30 a.m. EST on the 15th EST), the candidates for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced. The American independent film’Minari’, written and directed by Korean-American director Lee Isaac Jeong (Isak Jeong) based on his autobiographical experience, is expected to be nominated for major categories such as Best Works, Director Awards, and Screenplay Awards.
The film, which tells the story of a Korean family who moved to a farm in Arkansas in the US in the 1980s, has won 90 trophies at film festivals and awards ceremonies in the United States.
In the academy awards predictions of major US media such as Variety and Gold Derby, Minari is being featured in the top 3 nominations in major categories such as Best Works, Director Awards, and Screenplay Awards.
Last year, director Bong Joon-ho’s’Parasite’ was nominated for six categories, winning four categories, including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, and International Film Awards, rewriting the history of the Korean and international film industry. He also showed the possibility of nomination for an acting award.
In particular, Yoon Yeo-jeong, who played Sun-ja who passed away from Korea to help her daughter’s family who moved to Arkansas, competed for first or second place with Olivia Coleman of’The Father’ in the Best Supporting Actress category, and expects to be the first Korean actor to be nominated for the Academy Acting Award as well as winning Is raising it.
